I’m all for saving the environment, however this ecology kick is going to touch many people in many different ways. Increased interest in beautiful landscapes, increased interest in the aesthetics of living, increased awareness in the “preservation” of nature…will all this public opinion of “cleaning up the earth” demand that some old practices be discontinued? What I’m talking about here is the abolishment of junkyards.

I doubt that there is an old car buff living that hasn’t browsed through a junkyard or two in their day just for kicks. The junkyard, containing a good supply of parts, is a friend to the classic car collector, the hot rodder, the lean mean muscle machine and more. Well, my friend, kiss them good-bye if the kick continues. Many good citizens are for cleaning everything up so long as it doesn’t bother them. Somewhere between the two extremes lies the answer. Old car buffs and classic car enthusiasts should keep in touch with the way things are moving to head off the real threats of their hobby. The falling prices are hurting the industry in more ways than one.

Personally, I believe that many facets of the so-called problems have merit. What really concerns me is the “how-to-do” approach. I’m first to agree that it’s time we start taking care of our natural resources. Nature and wildlife conservation should be paramount in importance. But continue to support the local junkyards and areas we have now. Things of tradition should live on…don’t abolish the junkyards!
