If you are a classic car owner, you have come across a restoration a time or two. Especially if you want your vehicle to have an authentic look. As you also know, restoring a classic car is no easy task. Here are some tips that might help with your conquest of making your vehicle look great and authentic.

1. Don’t try to do everything at once. Compile a list of everything that needs to be taken care of on the vehicle. The most important parts to replace are of course those that don’t mechanically work anymore such as the engine but so are those parts that are rusted, broken glass, and tattered upholstery.
2. Decide on a paint color and visit a paint shop that is reputable and offers a variety of options. Make sure to see samples of their work. You might also want to do a little research to find out what color your car was ordered in. Chances are it may have been repainted earlier in its life by another owner.
3. If the chrome on the vehicle is looking a little dull, you can polish them right up to restore them to their natural glow. However, if there are scratches and pits in the chrome, you will need to take them to a restoration shop who will be able to re-plate the chrome for you.
4. For an authentic look, search for parts that come from parts cars, you can save yourself a lot of money. However, if the part is mechanical, it is better to look for NOS parts or stock parts…they might be more expensive but will save you a headache in the long run.
5. If the upholstery is in tatters you can choose to reupholster the interior or buy all new seats. If there are little rips and tears here and there, it may be possible to take it to an upholstery shop where they can stitch and repair. If the upholstery is vinyl or leather, you can easily repair the rips by applying a liquid leather solution (which you can purchase to match your color). Also, there might be excess upholstery under the seat that you can use.

The great part about restoring a classic car is that you will have many encounters and memories made along the way. It is a great hobby and even better if you find somebody to share it with.
